Many students are thrilled about learning different strategies for multi-digit multiplication. Several of them have requested that I send information home so parents can learn the different strategies too! While I think that most students can teach you, I am posting a few photos of the posters I used to teach it for your reference. I am not including traditional because we all know it! By the way, traditional seems to be dislike by most!

I am looking forward to meeting with each of you to discuss your student's progress! Your student is welcome to join for conferences but I completely understand if they are not present (for whatever reason). If you are not sure of the day or time, please let me know! See you all soon!
Every Friday is spirit day! We are averaging about 60% participation in our class. Please help remind your students next week! I posted a few examples of what counts as spirit!
Students have worked really hard on their personal narrative stories and are finally publishing! Our celebration will take place next Friday the 16th at 2:30. If you can volunteer to meet with a group please sign up on volunteer spot or email me!
The videos show students revising by giving advice based on writing lessons as well as editing! I was impressed with how helpful they were to one another!
I would like to see students reading "just right" leveled books at home as well as at school. For homework this week students will be reading on Raz-Kids Monday and Wednesday. Raz-kids is leveled and has great fiction and non-fiction books that students can read in any order. I would like to see students read the book, listen to the book and follow along and answer questions at the end. I am hoping Raz kids will also encourage students to read a variety of literature.
Raz-Kids can be accessed through the main library page at QAE or through the website. The username is mshunter and the password is unique to each student (passwords were sent in an email to parents a couple weeks back). Students are beginning to memorize multiplication facts. Fact triangles will be coming home with students on Tues. and Thurs. Students can use the triangles, like flashcards, to help with multiplication or division (depending on their level). Please help ensure that the triangles remain a complete set by keeping track of them and returning to school in the baggie. Thanks in advance! Nov. 9 - Picture re-take day. Nov. 10 - Veteran's Assembly at 2:45. We are honoring family members who are serving or has served in the military on this day. Please feel free to invite members of your family to this event. Also, we will be creating stars with names of family members who we would like to honor. The stars will be coming home with students on Tues. and we would like them returned on the morning of Friday so we can hang them for our assembly. Please help your student participate! Nov. 14- Mr. Elliot's 60th birthday! We will be celebrating as a whole school with an assembly at 9:45! Please come join us! Shhh...its a surprise! Nov. 16- Scholastic book orders went home this week. If you are interested in making a purchase please return your form by Nov. 16th with a check made out to Scholastic. Spirit days are Fridays! Help your student wear orange and purple on this day! Halloween was a success! The costumes were fabulous! Unfortunately, I only took a few photos (featured above). Thanks to parents who helped out by bringing treats and helping out!
Students have begun to create portfolios. On the home page they should have a biography and pictures related to their interests. Eventually, we will add pages that relate to reading, science, math, social studies and PBL! This is a place for students to share work and receive comments from viewers (QAE community)! Feel free to help your student access their Weely account at home and add photos or info. There is a "recipe" to help us remeber logins and passwords... Login (first name, last initial, qae, grade level) and password (hunterqae). You can view the websites on my website under 'student blogs' or make changes directly through the weebly site. Enjoy!
