- I completely forgot to make copies of the homework log today! So, students are excused from homework for the night. Some students, however, are coming home with a word story problem from math that they would like to complete. I will be sending the homework log home tomorrow!
- Students have been working on a realistic fiction writing piece in the last few weeks. They are revising, editing and publishing this week. We will have a writer’s celebration on Friday from 10:45 – 11:30. Please let me know if you can volunteer in advance. Also, dismissal on Friday is 2:35 and progress report will be coming home with students!
In response to the horrific news on Friday, our staff met this morning to discuss and decide how to handle the situation with students. As a staff we decided that each of us would make our own call as to how to approach based on how the class was feeling. In our class, most students wanted to know the details (who and how?) of the event. I decided not to have that discussion and left that up for students to speak with families about it (if you choose). I also spread the message to students that we have many adults looking out for us and we are safe (students saw and felt that presence). We also talked about how some parents and students choose not to discuss so we need to respect that by keeping conversations quiet at recess, lunch, hall, etc. I am happy to report that our class handled it well as behaviors were typical and the learning was high!
If you have any questions or comments about anything, don’t hesitate to ask.
